February 2013 - Tdap
Reminder – 6th Grade
"For the 2012-2013
school year, and all future school years, all
students entering, advancing or transferring into 7th grade
will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster.
Pertussis is a very contagious respiratory disease that can be
severe and last for months. The immunity received from either early
childhood immunization or pertussis disease wears off over time,
leaving older students and adults susceptible again to pertussis.
Immunization with Tdap can protect students, schools and communities
against pertussis." (source:
Shots for School)
If your student has had the adolescent Tdap booster immunization, please bring the
immunization record or the proper paperwork from the doctor or
health clinic to your child's school as soon as possible.
If your student has not had the adolescent Tdap booster, please meet this requirement
before the end of school (May 23, 2013) to avoid delays at 7th grade round-up.
There will not be an immunization clinic at round-up and your child
will not be able to begin 7th grade without this
requirement being met.
Thank you for your cooperation.
