School Safety
“School safety
implies that school systems dedicate their attention to creating the
safest and most secure environment for learning possible in any
given situation. Standards for a safe school apply to all factors
that contribute to the safety and security of adults and students at
the school. All schools are vulnerable to various threats to their
safety and security—from weakness at the external perimeters to
building procedures and student behavior. These threats can be
reduced or eliminated entirely when schools study and adapt safety
standards that address their specific needs, such as facilities
standards, policies and procedures standards, equipment standards,
staff certification standards, and safety planning and crisis
response training standards.” Source: Safe Schools America, Inc.,
