World History Notebooks

                        and Unit Organization

 

You will be required to utilize a spiral notebook for most of your class work and homework. Each unit of study will be organized and have certain components that, if mastered, could greatly aid in your success in World History. Please review and follow the following guidelines.


 

 

Title Page (always on page one)

·         Has unit title clear + bold

·         Has CA Standard #’s

·         Pictures relating to unit

·         Unit Summary (1-3 paragraphs)

·         proper heading top right

·         parent / guardian signature

 

Table of Contents (always on page two)

·         has two columns

·         column one is for the page #

·         column two is for title of each page

·         *all odd pages on left, all even on right

 

Key Vocabulary

·         four  neatly organized columns

·         number, word, definition and page found in text

 

Quick writes (the first 5 min. of class)

·         first thing you will do at the beginning of class

·         copy question (different color suggested)

·         write reflection or answer

·         Quick writes will occasionally be “pop quizzes”

 

Timelines

·         Straight lines

·         clearly labeled with date and occurrences

·         one picture or symbol per  entry

·         1 to 3 sentences per event entered

·         *refer to H15 in text for AD/BC and BCE/CE

 

Graphic Organizers of Information

·         clear titles

·         information is neat and legible

·         straight edges using a ruler

·         color to enhance key information

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Picture Highlights

·         occasionally, you will need to pick a picture and draw it in notebook on designated page

·         write about it (use info in captions in text and

any other info. you know or see in text)

·         you may use the web to get more info.

 

People Spotlight/ Character Highlight

·         Pick one person and put name at top

·         Get a full body picture of that person             

·         use arrows pointing to different parts of body that indicate thoughts, what they see, hear, smell, say, feel (heart), where they’ve been(feet).

·         write one full sentence per arrow

·         draw in two props they would have had

·         add a background scene

 

Maps

·         Use a black ink pen to label

·         Only color the water blue, not the land

·         color map according to assignment

·         *color lightly so information can be seen

 

Summary on page one

·         Done at end of the unit prior to unit test

·         3 paragraphs summarizing what you learned

·         use “main ideas” and “big idea” to guide you

 

Unit Evaluation Handout

·         Completed at the end of the unit.

·         includes self evaluation and grade

·         includes parent evaluation and comments of work completed in notebook

·         to be glued onto last page of unit

·         Have parent/ guardian sign it

·         add in final test score (s) for that unit

·         *worth 10 points every unit that it is assigned.
