Oakdale Junior High School

Resource Math and English

Welcome to junior high school and the 7th grade!!!!

Your student will receive one period of math and two periods of English (one in English and the other, Literature) in the Resource Department.  The math course will include concepts, skills, and reasoning strategies at the pre-algebra level.  We will also incorporate weekly multiplication and division facts practice.  English/Literature course will include reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, writing skills, punctuation and grammar skills.

Homework is assigned on a regular basis and when your student needs to finish an assignment not completed in class.  Your student will be required to complete their daily planner every day in class.  This will help with organization and a way for you to double check for homework and assignments.  Our school policy is that we do not accept late work so it is crucial that your student remains organized and turns work in on time.  In case of an absence, your student is allowed two days for every one day of absence to make up the work.

Students will be receiving their grades in class on a bi-weekly basis.  If grades begin to drop, you will be notified by phone or progress report.   We don’t want there to be any surprises at report card time!  Also available to you is the pink weekly progress report that your student can pick up in the main office each Monday and get reports from all their teachers; then bring that home to you.

If you have any concerns throughout the year, whether it’s about assignments, grades, behavior, discipline, or any other matter, please feel free to contact me at OJHS (847-2294, ext. 128 or email at kphillips@oakdale.k12.ca.us).  My desire is to give your student an excellent education in a friendly and accepting environment.  I am looking forward to getting to know your student and to a great year.

Here’s to a really good year!!!!!
